What we eat tells our story. Here’s mine.
I’ve always lived between cultures, continents and kitchens. Persian by heritage, British by upbringing with ties to Bahrain, the US and Barbados (food became the most reliable way to make sense of all of it.)
I’m Fifi. Exile, immigrant and, most importantly, bon vivant.
Over the years that passion became a profession. I’ve written for magazines, contributed to travel and food guides, written the food sections of StreetSmart Bahrain, judged restaurant awards, styled shoots, tested recipes and travelled widely in search of dishes. I’m also working on my first book, the Bahrain Almanac, a record of the island’s intangible natural heritage.
Here, I write about food, memory, migration and the places that made me; with detours into kitchen rabbit holes, book clubs and whatever is currently on my mind.
What to expect:
Monday: The Adventures of Hungry Fifi: essays, recipes, cultural deep-dives and travel dispatches. Always exploring food, memory and the places we belong to.
Thursday: Thursday Fives: a quick, fun five-thing dispatch from the week.
Subscribe and pull up a chair. There’s always room at this table.
